Wildcats Beat Rutgers in Final Round of Big Ten Match Play

PALM COAST, Fla. — Northwestern men's golf split the final day of competition at the Big Ten Match Play at Hammock Beach, topping Rutgers in the final match.

Northwestern started the day playing in a fog-shortened third round against Illinois, a nine-hole session that does not count toward official Golfstat rankings but does factor into advancement in the event.

Both Dylan Wu and Eric McIntosh halved their nine-hole match against their Fighting Illini counterparts, Nick Hardy and Brendan O'Reilly respectively. All other Wildcats dropped their matches, but none by more than two holes.

In the final match of the event, Northwestern beat Rutgers, 5.5-0.5.

Newcomers Ethan Farnam, Eric McIntosh, and Harrison Murphy bested their Scarlet Knight competition. Everton Hawkins also easily beat Toks Pedro of Rutgers, winning 6&4.

In the first day, the Wildcats handled Nebraska to start the action before falling to Wisconsin.

Chicago's Big Ten Team will play in its first stroke play event of the spring on Feb. 19-21, at the Prestige at PGA West in Palm Springs, California.
