Svärd Surges in Big Ten Championship Finale

NORTH PLAINS, Or. (May 3, 2026) – Senior Daniel Svärd surged up the leaderboard on Sunday, firing his low-round of the weekend with a 5-under 65 as Northwestern men's golf concluded play at the Big Ten Championship.
Competing at the Witch Hollow course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Oregon, the Wildcats opened the week with a combined score of 285 in their first round. Following a 292 in their second round, the 'Cats posted their low-round of the weekend on Sunday, carding a 281 to finish tied for ninth.
UCLA swept the championships, taking home the team title at 8-under, while Josh Kim claimed the individual crown.
Following matching rounds of 73 in his first two rounds, Svärd came out firing in his final round, carding six birdies to shoot a 5-under 65. Svärd's efforts placed him in a tie for 14th, rising 37 places on the leaderboard in the final round.
Jeremy Chen opened his week with a 3-under 67, and finished as the next highest Wildcat in a share of 29th place. Ethan Tseng finished one shot behind Chen, carding a pair of 71s on Friday and Sunday, while Rowan Sullivan rounded out the leaderboard in 47th, firing an even-par 70 in his second round.
Monty Holcombe fired rounds of 79 and 75 in his opening two rounds, with Mark Gazi carding a 2-over 72 on Sunday as a substitution.
