OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — Three of the five Wildcats in the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational finished in the top half of the field, but Northwestern finished in 13th place at the competitive event at Olympia Fields Country Club.
Senior Dylan Wu finished tied for 25th, the highest #B1GCats finish. He shot 74 in the final round Sunday after registering a pair of 71s in rounds one and two.
NU finished with 875 strokes (298-288-294), finishing above Indiana and Navy.
Both junior Ryan Lumsden and first year Eric McIntosh tied for 39th in the Wildcats' season-opening event, finishing with 9-over 219s.
Wu and Lumsden both tied for the team lead — and were tied for 10th among the field — with a two-under mark on par fives over the course of the event.
Senior Sam Triplett and sophomore Everton Hawkins both recorded the lowest scores for Northwestern in the final round, both carding 3-over 73s. Hawkins's round was highlighted by rolling in an 84-foot putt on the ninth hole, pumping a putt over the fringe, through the green, and into the hole.
The Wildcats' next event is the Erin Hills Intercollegiate at the prestigious Erin Hills Country Club in Erin, Wisconsin, Oct. 1-3.
