GREENSBORO, N.C. — Northwestern men's golf won its second-straight event on Sunday, led by the third-career individual championship by senior Dylan Wu at the UNCG/Grandover Collegiate.
Wu, who finished at 7-under, posted a consistent 69-70-70 at the Grandover Resort East Course. He finished four strokes better than the next-closest golfer, Ben Griffin of North Carolina.
NU finished two strokes better than second-place North Carolina, finishing at 9-over. The 'Cats saved their best performance for the final round, finishing with a 2-under 286. Northwestern was the only team to shoot under-par in the final day, and were four strokes better than the next-closest team on the round.
This marks the second-straight season that the Wildcats have won multiple events as a team.
Despite a hot start, junior Ryan Lumsden rebounded to being a key part of the NU lineup in the second and third rounds. He carded a 3-under 69 in the final round on Sunday to move up to a third-place tie.
In all, four Wildcats finished in the top-17, three of which were in the starting lineup.
Senior Sam Triplett (+7) had the next-highest finish for Northwestern, finishing Sunday with an even-par 72. First-year Ethan Farnam posted his best finish of his young NU career, also tying for 17th place.
Sophomore Everton Hawkins (+11) finished in 28th place while first-year Eric McIntosh (+15) finished in 46th.
Chicago's Big Ten Team led all competitors with 43 birdies, including 15 on the final day. Wu accumulated 15 birdies of his own over the 54 holes, five more than the next-closest golfer.
With the event, the Wildcats wrap-up their 2017 fall slate. NU is back in action Feb. 9-10, 2018, at the Big Ten Match Play in Palm Coast, Florida.
