Tennis Teams Earn Individual and Team ITA Academic Honors

GILBERT, Ariz. - Both Northwestern tennis teams have been honored as ITA All-Academic Teams, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Monday. Fifteen NU student-athletes were also named Scholar Athletes in the release, including 10 men’s players and five women’s players.

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, a collegiate program must maintain a team GPA of 3.2 or higher (on a 4.00 scale) for the preceding academic year. The men’s tennis team earned the accolade for the fifth straight year, while the women’s team collected its 12th straight team award.

In addition to the team honors, several individuals from each team received Scholar Athlete awards, given to student-athletes who maintain a GPA of 3.50 or higher for the academic year while competing on their team.

From women’s tennis, Autumn Rabjohns earned the honor for the third straight season. Mika Dagan Fruchtman and Katya Shepherd Johnson both collected their second straight award, while first-years Margot Phanthala and Marelie Raath were named Scholar Athletes during their first seasons in Evanston.

On the men’s side, all six newcomers earned Scholar Athlete distinction; first-years Dylan Fayerman, Jacob Golden and Cooper Han were all honored for the first time, while transfers Dylan Charlap, Cyrus Mahjoob and Ethan Schiffman all collected the honor at Northwestern after previously being awarded at their former schools. Lucas Coriaty and Vincent Yang, both sophomores, made it back-to-back years as Scholar Athletes, while Greyson Casey picked up his second award in the last three years. Senior Chad Miller earned the award for the fourth straight season.
