
Northwestern Travels to Penn State for Wednesday Night Clash

EVANSTON, Ill. – Winners of four of its last five games, Northwestern men's basketball travels to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions at 5:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Jan. 10. The contest will air on BTN with Jason Horowitz (play-by-play) and Stephen Bardo (analyst) on the call, and on WGN Radio 720 and SiriusXM Channel 381 with Dave Eanet (play-by-play) and Billy McKinney (analyst) on the radio call.
The Wildcats (11-3, 2-1 B1G) are 2-1 to begin Big Ten Conference play for the second consecutive season. Northwestern is looking to begin league play 3-1 in back-to-back seasons and just the fourth time in the last 56 seasons.
Last time out, the Wildcats defeated Michigan State 88-74 inside Welsh-Ryan Arena on Sunday (Jan. 7). The win marked Northwestern's third consecutive victory over the Spartans, its first three-game win streak over MSU since 1961-62. All five starters scored in double figures for the first time since doing so against Saint Peter's on Nov. 13, 2017. The Wildcats committed only five turnovers and held a 21-2 advantage in points off turnovers. Northwestern's 88 points were the most it scored against the Spartans since recording a 105-89 win on Jan. 8, 1976.
Boo Buie's 19 points and 10 assists marked the first points/assists double-double by a Wildcat since Bryant McIntosh recorded 11 points and a school-record 16 assists against Minnesota on Jan. 10, 2018. Buie also contributed three steals, recording the first 10-plus point, 10-plus assist, and three-plus steal game by a Wildcat since at least 1996-97. Buie has scored 1,795 career points at Northwestern, and is 10 points away from tying Evan Eschmeyer (1,805) for the fourth-most in program history.
Ty Berry scored a season-high 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field and a 4-for-7 mark from behind the arc. The 'Cats are 18-5 over the last two seasons when Berry scores in double figures.
Luke Hunger earned his first career start against the Spartans, matching his career high with 10 points.
Sullivan-Ubben Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Collins recorded his 70th Big Ten win against Michigan State, moving him into a tie for second with Bill Carmody for Big Ten wins by a head coach in school history. Arthur "Dutch" Lonborg holds the school record with 138 career Big Ten wins.
Wednesday's meeting will mark the 59th all-time between the Wildcats and Nittany Lions on the hardwood, with PSU holding a 38-20 advantage in the series.
