Svärd, Adam Lead ‘Cats At Season-Opening Gopher Invitational

Northwestern shares fifth on team leaderboard
INDEPENDENCE, Minn. (September 11, 2023) – Three Wildcats placed inside the top 20 as the Northwestern University men's golf team raised the curtain on its 2023-24 slate at the Gopher Invitational in Independence, Minn.
The 'Cats finished play at the par-71, 7,543-yard course at the Windsong Farm Golf Club as part of a tie for fifth place, alongside the host Golden Gophers, with a 54-hole team tally of 855 (285-278-292). UNC-Wilmington (284-279-282=845) edged out Kent State (284-284-282=850) for the team title, while Kansas' Will King fired an eight-under-par 205 (68-66-71) to secure individual medalist honors.
The pairing of Daniel Svärd and Cameron Adam paced the attack for Northwestern at the event, each finishing as part of a three-way tie for 15th place with an even-par 213. Svärd (71-68-74), the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year, turned in the top 18-hole effort of the event by a Wildcat, firing a second-round three-under-par 68, while Adam (70-70-73) posted back-to-back one-under-par 70s to begin the event.
Ethan Tseng matched Adam's second-round effort, turning in a one-under-par 70 of his own to close Sunday's action en route to sharing 18th with a one-over-par 214 (71-70-73). James Imai tied for 31st at 216 (73-70-73), also posting a second-round 70, while Niall Shiels-Donegan turned in a 221 (76-72-73) to finish as part of a tie for 51st in his collegiate debut.
