'Cats Host Memphis in Friday Night Blockbuster

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern men's tennis hosts Memphis on Friday night at Combe Tennis Center for an anticipated matchup between two NCAA Tournament teams from last season.
Northwestern is 2-0 to start the season after sweeping Chicago State last week while Memphis is 1-0 with a win over Jackson State.
The Wildcats reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season as did the Tigers – the 'Cats knocked off UCLA before falling to No. 4 Texas while Memphis defeated Georgia Tech before falling to No. 3 Tennessee.
Northwestern's first lineup in 2022 featured four returners from last year with Steven Forman remaining at No. 1 singles. Trice Pickens, Simen Bratholm and Gleb Blekher all moved into different slots while Felix Nordby, a first year from Norway, slid into the No. 4 spot.
Pickens is ranked No. 92 in the latest ITA singles rankings from December while Bratholm is ranked No. 104.
The Wildcats have some shuffling to do in doubles after losing two members of their two most used combos in 2021, but they have a plethora of options including graduate transfer Brian Berdusco, with extensive doubles experience at Florida. Br. Berdusco made his duals debut with Bratholm at No 1. doubles in the second match against Chicago State, which ended unfinished after seven games.
Memphis is led in singles by No. 88 Jeremy Taylor and No. 112 Oscar Cutting. David Stevenson and Taylor were ranked at No. 30 in the latest ITA doubles rankings, but did not play together in the Tigers' season opener.
The Tigers added three first years to their singles lineup who all made their spring debuts last weekend at Nos. 4, 5, and 6 singles.
