CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — No. 66 Northwestern closed its regular season with a 4-0 loss against No. 15 Illinois at Atkins Tennis Center.
The Wildcats (15-13, 3-10 Big Ten) were without lineup mainstays in sophomore Carter Pate and junior Ethan Schiffman in the defeat.
The Fighting Illini (21-6, 10-3 Big Ten) opened the match by narrowly taking the doubles point. Though they took the No. 3 doubles match, Northwestern's No. 1 team of senior Chad Miller and junior Greyson Casey recorded a 6-3 victory over the country's No. 63 team in William Mroz and Kenta Miyoshi. However, Illinois claimed the No. 2 match to take a 1-0 lead.
Casey finished the season with a 20-1 record in doubles, the most doubles wins by a Wildcat this decade.
In singles, Northwestern fell at the No. 4, No. 6, and No. 3 positions. Though the Wildcats did not claim a set, sophomore Vincent Yang came close but narrowly fell in a first-set tiebreak at the No. 5 spot.
The Wildcats conclude the 2026 dual season with more wins (15) than the 2024 (10) and 2025 (12) campaigns.
