Wildcats Suffer Setbacks at USC, UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — No. 66 Northwestern was defeated by No. 28 USC and No. 24 UCLA during its road trip to the West Coast.
The matches marked the Wildcats' (15-12, 3-9 Big Ten) first conference road contests against the Trojans (16-6, 8-3 Big Ten) and Bruins (14-6, 8-3 Big Ten).
Against USC on Friday night, Northwestern dropped the match 4-0 but nearly claimed the doubles point.
Senior Chad Miller and junior Greyson Casey, appearing at the No. 2 doubles slot, opened doubles by dominating their opponents in a 6-0 victory. The result moved Casey to 19-0 in doubles this season.
The Wildcats, however, narrowly fell 6-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot and 7-5 at the No. 3 position.
Northwestern failed to win a singles match in the contest. First-year Jacob Golden appeared in his first career singles match in the dual season, playing at the No. 6 singles position.
Facing UCLA on Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats again fell 4-0. Northwestern did not claim a set in doubles or singles, but Casey was in position to take the second set of his singles match when play concluded. Appearing at the No. 2 singles position, he led 4-2 in the set.
Northwestern concludes its regular season on the road next weekend, traveling to face No. 14 Illinois on Saturday, April 18. First serve is set for noon CT.
