EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern dropped a Sunday afternoon contest to #5 Iowa, 96-73, at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Pete Nance led the Wildcats with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go along with a career-high five assists and nine rebounds. Nance led all players in the second half with 12 points on an efficient 5-of-7 clip from the field.
Ryan Greer turned in a career-high 10 points as he knocked down a career-best three three-pointers as he did not miss from behind the arc. It marked the first time in Greer's career he has hit multiple triples in a game, he is now the seventh different Wildcat to knock down at least three three-pointers in a single game this season.
Greer also led all players in the game with six assists, his second-highest output on the year behind when he dished out eight in the season-opener vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Boo Buie caught fire in the first 10 minutes of action, knocking down four-straight three-pointers midway through the half to help keep the 'Cats within striking distance. Buie finished the first half with a team-high 12 points. It marked the third time this season the sophomore guard has led the 'Cats in scoring and his sixth time finishing in double figures.
The Hawkeyes shot a blistering 61-percent from the field in the first half, but the 'Cats were able to keep the deficit to just 12 at the break behind a balanced scoring output. Five Wildcats finished with multiple field goals, led by Buie's 12 points.
Iowa extended its lead over the final 20 minutes of action, shooting 54-percent from the field in the second half as the Hawkeyes improved to 6-1 on the season and moved into a tie for first place in the Big Ten.
Sunday marked the sixth-consecutive ranked opponent that the Wildcats have faced, extending what was already the longest streak of ranked opponents in program history.
The Wildcats hit the road for a Wednesday night matchup at Wisconsin. Tip-off is at 8 pm CT on Big Ten Network (note, this game was originally scheduled for Jan. 27, but was moved forward one week).
