'Cats Finish Third at Windon Memorial Classic

GLENCOE, Ill. – Behind a team-best 3-under 210 from sophomore Dylan Wu, the Wildcats posted a top-three team finish to close out the 19th edition of the Windon Memorial Classic at Lake Shore Country Club.
 
Purdue broke the tournament scoring record to win the team title with a 22-under 830, shattering California's mark of 6-under 834 set last year at the par-70 Evanston Golf Club. Purdue's second-round 272 Sunday was the second-lowest single round in the 19-year history of this event, and its 553 36-hole total also was the second-lowest in tournament history. Lake Shore CC played to a 6,844-yard, par-71 layout this weekend.
 
The Wildcats finished three strokes behind second-place Michigan with a third place total of 4-under 848. NU was five shots ahead of fourth place Princeton.
 
Wu paced Northwestern for the second-consecutive tournament. He carded a pair of birdies on the front nine to counter a seventh-hole bogey and finished the day at 2-under 69. Wu finished tied for third in the individual standings.

Redshirt junior Andrew Whalen also cracked the top 10 after shooting 2-under 211 for the tournament.  Whalen carded 13 birdies through three rounds, finishing ninth overall.
 
Senior Josh Jamieson shot his best round of the tournament on Monday at 2-under 69 to move up 23 spots in the individual standings to 40th. Jamieson tallied a quartet of birdies on the front nine during the third round and closed out his final performance at the Windon Memorial Classic at 6-over 219.
 
Graduate transfer Harley Abrams tallied a birdie on the 569-yard par-5 ninth hole and shot even-par the rest of the way. Abrams finished at 1-under 70 on the final round for a 17th place finish in the individual standings at even-par 213.
 
Freshman Pete Griffith, who played as an individual, rounded out the top 25 for Northwestern. The first year golfer finished the tournament at 2-over 215.
 
Classmate Ryan Lumsden struggled to a 7-over 78 on Monday to round out the team lineup for the Wildcats. He ended up in 56th place at 10-over 223.
 
Sophomore Sam Triplett, who also played as an individual, moved up two spots in the standings with a final round of 5-over 76. Luke Miller fired a 1-under 70 during the finale and finished the tournament with a 40th place finish in the individual standings.
 
The Wildcats are back in action next weekend when they tee off at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Oct. 3.
