Three-Time Champs Open 2016 at B1G Match Play Championship

EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the eighth-straight season, Big Ten spring golf begins at the B1G Match Play Championship, beginning on Friday, Feb. 12, at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla.
Northwestern has historically been a dominant presence in the event, compiling a 21-4 all-time record with three-straight tournament championships from 2010-12.
The current Big Ten Match Play format sees coaches submit a roster of up to eight players prior to the event and choose a six-player lineup for each match from that group. Live scoring will be provided Birdiefire.
All matches will be split into divisional play this year and be played on the Tom Watson designed Conservatory Course, which will be set up for a par 72 and 7,777 yards. Each team will have six members competing in each match.
Ten of the 14 members of the Big Ten will be competing, and the tournament has been set up in a divisional format. Not playing this year will be Illinois, Maryland, Ohio State and Wisconsin. The West Division includes Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern and Purdue, while the East Division will showcase Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Rutgers.
Northwestern, currently ranked No. 56 by Golfstat, will face Michigan State in the opening round. That match will start at 7 a.m. CT on Friday.

Friday, Feb. 12 -- Round 2 Match vs. Nebraska, 12:15 p.m. CST (shotgun)
Saturday, Feb. 13 -- Round 3 Match vs. Purdue, 7 a.m. CST (shotgun)
Saturday, Feb. 13 -- Round 4 Matches vs. TBD, 12:15 p.m. CST (shotgun)
With six players competing in each match, Northwestern will rotate its lineup throughout the event with all seven players competing at the Big Ten Match Play Championship. Traveling for the Wildcats will be seniors Andrew Whalen and Josh Jamieson, sophomore Sam Triplett, freshmen Pete Griffith, Luke Miller, Ryan Lumsden, and graduate transfer Harley Abrams.
Sophomore Dylan Wu will be competing at the Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase. The Collegiate Showcase is a one-day competition that is made up of 4-person teams as ach team represents a particular university. The foursomes are comprised of a Professional, two amateurs, and a collegiate player.
BTN will broadcast the 2015 Big Ten Match Play Championship via tape delay Sunday, March 13, at 12 p.m. CT.
