COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Northwestern moved up one spot on the final day of competition Sunday to conclude the Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State with an eighth-place finish among the 14-team field at the Buckeyes' Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

Northwestern's 12-over 296 in the final round helped it jump over Big Ten foe Penn State in the final team standings, and nearly allowed NU to catch Kent State and Houston for sixth. That pair ended up four strokes in front of the Wildcats. Among the Big Ten teams in the field, Northwestern finished behind only host Ohio State (third) and Michigan (fourth) while placing ahead of PSU, Maryland (10th), Michigan State (11th) and Nebraska (13th).

Senior Matthew Negri (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont) shot a 2-over 73 in the final round Sunday, making two early bogeys at Nos. 2 and 5. He added a third bogey after the turn at No. 10 before playing 1-under par golf the rest of the way. He got his stroke back with a birdie at the par-4 14th hole. Negri finished the tournament in 18th place at 6-over 219 (76-70-73).

Junior Josh Jamieson (St. Andrews, Scotland/High School of Dundee) carded an early birdie at No. 3 and remained in red figured until a bogey at the difficult ninth hole. He then suffered a double bogey at the par-4 10th, but fought back right away with birdies at Nos. 11 and 14 to get back to even par.

Jamieson then bogeyed No. 15 and made par on his final three holes of the round to finish at 1-over 72 Sunday. Coupled with his even-par 71 in the second round Saturday, Sunday's score represented a nice bounce back in the tournament after an opening 77. Jamieson finished in 20th place at 7-over 220 (77-71-72).

Freshman Dylan Wu (Medford, Ore./St. Mary's School) started the final round well with birdies at No. 1 and the par-5 fourth hole. Those strokes went away after a double bogey at the seventh, then a bogey at No. 8 put him over par for the round. He sandwiched three back nine bogeys around a birdie at No. 15 to account for a 3-over 74 on Sunday and an 20th-place 7-over 220 (70-76-74) for the tournament.

Freshman Charles Wang (Beijing, China/Sarasota Christian School) began Sunday with a bogey at No. 1 and a double bogey at No. 2, eventually making the turn at 5-over par. He would be 6-over before making his first birdie of the day at the par-4 14th hole, though he gave that shot back immediately at No. 15. Pars the rest of the way gave Wang a 6-over 77 for and a 54-hole score of 14-over 227 (75-75-77), placing him 50th overall.

Senior Bennett Lavin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) suffered a pair of double bogeys during a 4-over 40 front nine. He had two more bogeys on the back to come in with a 6-over 77 to place 54th in the Kepler field at 15-over 228 (76-75-77).

Playing as an individual, freshman Sam Triplett (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy Prep) put together a nice final round, carding a 2-over 73 that promised to be even better. He was even par through 14 holes before reeling off three straight bogeys, however he made birdie on his 54th hole of the event to move up to 50th place at 14-over 227 (79-75-73).

Northwestern is back in action quickly April 18-19 at its final regular season event, The Boilermaker hosted by Purdue.
