NEWBURGH, Ind. -- Darkness has suspended the first day of the Big Ten Championships at Victoria National Golf Club, interrupting a red-hot second round that has Northwestern shooting up the standings.

After struggling to an opening 15-over 303 in Friday morning's first round that was delayed by frost, the Wildcats currently have the best second round on the course at 10-under par through 9-12 holes of play. Northwestern was in 11th position after the first round, and climbed all the way to fifth at the moment the horn blew to stop play.

The second round will resume at 8 a.m. tomorrow with the third round starting at 8:30 a.m. Teams will keep the same pairings as the first two rounds Friday.

Freshman Charles Wang (Beijing, China/Sarasota Christian School) led Northwestern in the opening round despite making two bogeys in his first three holes. He got back to even par with birdies at Nos. 6 and 9, and then answered a late bogey at No. 17 with a birdie at the last for an even-par 72.

Wang made two quick birdies in the second round at Nos. 2 and 3. He gave a shot back at No. 7, and remains 1-under for the round and tournament through 12 holes of play to sit in eighth position.

Junior Josh Jamieson (St. Andrews, Scotland/High School of Dundee) made birdie at his very first hole of the 2015 Big Ten Championships and twice answered bogeys (at Nos. 9 and 14) with immediate birdies (at Nos. 10 and 15). A double bogey at the par-3 16th and a closing bogey left him over par, however, at 2-over 74.

Jamieson is 3-under par through 12 holes in the second round, playing blemish free golf with birdies at Nos. 5, 9 and 10 to get to 1-under for the tournament and a current tie for eighth position.

Dylan Wu (Medford, Ore./St. Mary's School) saw just three bad holes sink his opening round score. He had two birdies and a bogey on the day, but also had a trio of double bogeys -- all on the back nine -- leading to a 5-over 77.

So far in the second round, Wu has eliminated all mistakes and is going seriously low, sitting at 5-under par through 12 holes. He made birdies at Nos. 3 and 5 before his lone miscue, a bogey at No. 7. He followed that with four straight birdies from Nos. 8 through 11 to climb all the way up to 13th in the individual standings at the moment.

Senior Matthew Negri (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont), coming off a career-best finish at The Boilermaker, unfortunately did not get off to a similar start Friday. He opened bogey-bogey-double bogey over the first three holes, and made the turn at 4-over par. Then a triple bogey at the par-4 12th contributed to an opening-round 8-over 80.

Negri is 1-under par through nine holes in his second round, making birdie at No. 1, bogey at No. 6 and birdie at No. 7.

Bennett Lavin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) came out firing with three birdies in his first six holes. A double-bogey, bogey combo toward the end of the front nine turned him at 2-over par, then a rough back nine consisting of six bogeys and three pars left him at 8-over 80. In the second round Friday, Lavin started with back-to-back bogeys before stabilizing to remain on that number through 12 holes of play.
