Wildcats Finish 12th at Gifford Collegiate

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Northwestern concluded its fall season at the Gifford Collegiate tournament in Carlsbad, California, on Wednesday with a 12th-place team finish. The Wildcats shot 37-over 889 during the three-day, 54-hole tournament at the par-71, 6,996-yard La Costa Legends course.
Only six golfers in the 81-player field were under par in the final round and five others were able to match par. None of the schools in the 15-team field broke par as the University of Washington had the low round of the day at two-over 286 to help win the tournament in six-under 846.
The 'Cats carded their best round of the tournament on day two, shooting 20-over 290 to rise to ninth place in the team standings.
Sophomore Dylan Wu had the most successful weekend for the Chicago's Big Ten Team. After shooting even par in the first round, Wu finished at 6-over 219 to sit 24th in the individual standings. He carded the squad's only eagle and logged a team-best 11 birdies.
Senior Andrew Whalen finished closely behind Wu at 7-over 220 for 31st overall, while freshman Luke Miller shot 12-over 225 for 51st overall. Sophomore Sam Triplett came in at 56th overall and senior Josh Jamieson rounded out scoring for the 'Cats in 68th place at 13-over 226.
Competing individually, freshman Ryan Lumsden ended the weekend at 14-over 227 for a 60th-place finish.
