NU in Third After Day One of Bridgestone Golf Collegiate

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Northwestern stands in third place among the 14-team field after opening day of competition at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate hosted by UNCG at Grandover Resort.
NU opened the 36-hole day Sunday with a 2-over 290 before improving to 15-under 273 in the afternoon. The Wildcats' 13-under 563 places them 16 strokes behind second place North Carolina and 20 shots back of first-place Purdue.
The third and final round of the Bridgestone is Monday, Oct. 26.
Sam Triplett paced Chicago's Big Ten Team, closing out the first day at 5-under 139. The sophomore shot 3-over 75 in the first round before firing an impressive 8-under 64 in the second.
Senior Andrew Whalen and freshman Pete Griffith also finished among the field's top-15 individuals after the first day of competition. The Wildcat duo closed out the day at 3-under 141 and both sit tied for 11th to start the third round.
Josh Jamieson will start the final round ranked 21st in the individual standings at 1-under 143. The senior drained a pair of birdies on the front nine of the first round to counter a bogey and finish the first 18 at even par, before shooting 1-under 71 in the afternoon.
Sophomore Dylan Wu had a slow start in the first round; making four bogeys in his first seven holes and closed out the round at 5-over 77. Wu turned it around in the afternoon, carding three birdies on the back nine to finish the second round at 2-under 70. Wu is in 40th place at 3-over 147.
