SAN MARTIN, Calif. -- Junior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) broke into the top-10 after Tuesday's second round of the Gifford Collegiate, firing a 3-under 69 to move to 5-under 139 (70-69) on the tournament and enter Wednesday's final round in seventh place.

Lipsky made birdie on all four of the holes he birdied in Monday's opening round, adding an additional one on the par-5 sixth. He also carded two bogies to account for his 69.

NU shot a team round of even-par 360 on Tuesday to remain at 4-over for the tournament (364-360=724). The Wildcats slipped one spot to 11th in the 14-team field, two strokes behind both Arizona and Colorado, which are tied for ninth. Northwestern is eight strokes clear of 12th-place Oklahoma. At the Gifford, five scores are taken from six competitors on each team.

Junior Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) shaved two strokes off his first-day total with an even-par 72 Tuesday. After turning in bogies on the first two holes, he made birdie on Nos. 6, 8 and 9 for a 1-under 35 on the front side. He then had two bogies on the back side before a birdie on the par-5 18th. Dupont is in 43rd place with a 2-over 146 (74-72).

Senior Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) bounced back from shooting NU's highest score on Monday to fire a 2-under 70 on Tuesday. Bowers was absolutely on fire to start his round, making birdie on each of the first four holes. He followed that up with three-straight bogies, however, before carding his fifth birdie on No. 8 for an outbound 34. The back side was much less eventful, pairing two birdies with two bogies for a total of seven birdies on the round and a 3-over 147 in the tourney (77-70).

Bowers currently is tied with teammate Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) for 52nd in the individual standings. Chun shot a 2-over 74 to reach his total of 147 (73-74).

Sophomore Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) equaled his first-round total with a 3-over 75 in the second, putting him in 70th place with a 6-over 150 (75-75). He's tied with freshman Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame), who had a 78 on Tuesday following a first-round even-par 72.

The 54-hole Gifford Collegiate concludes with the final round tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 11.
