BATON ROUGE, La. -- Led by freshman Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame), Northwestern is in eighth place following the first two rounds Monday of the David Toms Intercollegiate hosted by LSU at the Country Club of Louisiana.

The Wildcats had an up-and-down day, holding the first-round lead after firing a 5-under 279 before turning in the highest score of the second 18 holes with an 8-over 292 to find themselves in the middle of the 14-team pack. NU is four strokes behind seventh-place Mississippi State and one stroke ahead of ninth-place Rice.

Losole is in a tie for eighth place at 3-under 139 (69-70) to pace the Wildcats, carding four birdies against two bogies in the first round. He was 3-under through the first 11 holes of his second round before a pair of bogies on Nos. 12 and 18.

Sophomore Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) has a 1-over 143 (69-74) entering Tuesday. He matched Losole with four birdies and two bogies in his first round before a colorful second, which saw him make five birdies, six bogies and a double for a 3-over 74. Chien currently is in 28th position in the individual standings.

Senior Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) rounded out a trio of Wildcats (along with Losole and Chien) who shot 2-under 69's in the first round. Bowers followed his up with a 4-over 75 in the second to find himself in a tie for 32nd at 2-over 144.

Junior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) is one stroke behind Bowers at 3-over 145 (72-73), good for 38th. Junior Ravi Patel (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) shot rounds of 75 and 77 to conclude the first day of action at 10-over 152.

The Wildcats are playing without sophomore Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School), who has been selected for the field of the inaugural Asian Amateur Championship Oct. 29-Nov. 1 at Mission Hills Golf Club in Guanlan, China.
