Men’s Golf to Defend Title at Big Ten Championships in Baltimore

4/24/2025 11:30:00 AM | Men's Golf

BALTIMORE, Md. – Northwestern Men's Golf returns to the Big Ten Championships with their sights set on a second consecutive postseason title. The event runs Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27, with Sunday's final round - for the first time - being broadcast on Big Ten Network from 12:00 p.m. CT - 3:00 p.m. CT.

Last year, behind four Top 10 finishers, the team took home the title in wire-to-wire fashion at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. Then-sophomore Daniel Svärd won the individual championship for the second straight year, posting a one-over-par performance. Svärd, now a junior, became the first player in Big Ten history to win the Big Ten Individual Championship in each of his first two seasons.

Fifty-four (54) holes will be played over three daily rounds. Play tees off on Friday and Saturday at 8:00 a.m. CT, while Sunday's final round will begin at 7:00 a.m. CT. Live scoring can be found via Scoreboard.

Head coach David Inglis has led the Wildcats to six Top 3 finishes this season, including wins at The Clerico and St. Andrews Links Collegiate. The 'Cats closed the regular season with back-to-back Top 3 showings at The Goodwin and Lewis Chitengwa Memorial.

Two 'Cats won individual titles this season. In late October, Adam, an Edinburgh, Scotland native, raced out of the gate in the opening round of The Clerico with a three-under-par 67 before posting back-to-back even-par 70s on the way to securing his first career collegiate victory with a three-under 207 (67-70-70). Svärd was crowned co-champion of The Goodwin in Stanford, California, close to one month ago. Svärd tied for first on the leaderboard at 5-under (67-70-68=205) with four other golfers.

The winner of the 2025 Big Ten Conference Men's Golf Championships will secure the Conference's automatic big to the NCAA Regionals, May 12-14. The 2025 NCAA Men's Golf Championships will be held May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

The Field
The 'Cats join their fellow Big Ten competitors in the field, squaring up against #12 UCLA, #13 Illinois, Oregon, USC, Ohio State, Michigan State, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Washington and Wisconsin.

The Course
The Wildcats head to the par-70, 7,181-yard Baltimore Country Club, recently ranked within the top 100 "Most Prestigious Clubs in the World" by Links Magazine. One of the original 100 clubs to be founded in the United States, Baltimore Country Club has hosted a variety of major tournaments during its storied history.

Last Time Out
The Wildcats concluded the regular season with a third-place finish at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial (recap). Both Niall Shiels-Donegan (T6) and Cameron Adam (T8) paced the 'Cats on the leaderboard to finish in the Top 10.
