Inglis Named Coach of the Year, Men’s Golf Claims Five Big Ten Awards

Northwestern collects Big Ten Coach of the Year, All-Big Ten First Team, and All-Big Ten Second Team honors

ROSEMONT, ILL. (April 30, 2024) – The Big Ten Conference champion Northwestern Men's Golf team collected five Big Ten postseason honors, highlighted by Head Coach David Inglis receiving unanimous coach of the year recognition. Sophomores Daniel Svärd and Ethan Tseng were named to the All-Big Ten First Team, and Junior Cameron Adam Graduate Student James Imai garnered All-Big Ten Second Team honors.
 
Inglis was unanimously voted by his peers as league coach of the year for the first time in his career after leading the Wildcats to their first Big Ten Championship in 18 years, and earning the 'Cats an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship. He is Northwestern's first coach of year recipient since Pat Goss in 2001. The Wildcats have been playing their best golf in the second half of the season, taking third at the Duck Invitational and Lewis Chitengwa Memorial before taking fourth at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate and winning the Big Ten Championship. Northwestern will learn its regional placement on Wednesday, May 1 at 1 p.m. CT on Golf Channel.
 
Svärd and Tseng were named to the All-Big Ten First Team, with Svärd's recognition coming unimanually. Both claimed individual victories this season; Svärd at the Big Ten Championships and Tseng at the Fighting Irish Classic. Svärd's one-over-par 211 (68-75-68) earned him the Big Ten individual title for the second consecutive year after being tabbed Freshman of The Year his rookie season. Tseng also turned heads in Columbus, coming in eighth with a nine-over-par 219 (71-74-74).
 
Adam and Imai were tabbed All-Big Ten Second Team after placing in the top 10 at the Big Ten tournament. Adam landed at the 10 spot, shooting a 10-over-par 220 (73-71-76). Imai finished third with a five-over-par 215 (68-74-73), which made for his top finish of his career.
 
Imai was also named Northwestern's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, which is given to student-athletes with distinguished sportsmanship, ethical behavior, academic standing, and good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
