Northwestern holds an impressive 6-0 record against Denver, with a perfect 3-0 record when playing at home. Their last encounter on May 26, 2023, during the national semi-final, saw Northwestern secure a commanding 15-7 victory, handing Denver their first loss of the season on the 'Cats' way to a national championship.
This season, the Pioneers have a 3-2 record, showcasing a solid defense that has not allowed a team to score more than 10 goals in a game. However, they faced defeats in their two ranked matches against No. 10 Michigan (8-4) and No. 9 Maryland (10-8).
No. 1 ranked Northwestern comes into the game with 5-1 record after a dominating 27-3 victory over Central Michigan where many 'Cats entered the record books. Izzy Scane was named IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week after scoring nine goals in the past week, propelling her to become the all-time points leader in Northwestern history with 401 points. In last year's national semi-final game against Denver, Scane recorded eight points with six goals and two assists.
Erin Coykendall, who scored four goals against Boston College last week, tallied six assists in the victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas which brought her to an outstanding 300 career points. Only six wildcats have ever achieved this. Coykendall has started the season strong, leading the team with 33 points.
As the Wildcats aim to extend their remarkable 36-game winning streak at home, both teams are primed for what is sure to be an exciting matchup.
The 'Cats are back on Sunday to play UAlbany at home at 1:00 p.m. CT on Wilson Field at Ryan Fieldhouse.
