SPARKS, Md. — Senior attacker Maddie Epke earned USA Lacrosse Division I Women's Player of the Week honors for her role in Northwestern's victories over then-No. 1 North Carolina and then-No. 7 Johns Hopkins, the organization announced on Tuesday.
This marks Epke's second time receiving the honor, having won USA Lacrosse Player of the Week honors on April 15, 2015. She is the first Wildcat to win the award this season.
Across Northwestern's two top-10 wins this past week, Epke recorded six goals, two assists, a caused turnover and 21 draw controls.
The NCAA leader in career draw controls among active players, Epke pulled down a season-high 15 draw controls as the Wildcats knocked off the then-undefeated Tar Heels 17-16 in overtime on March 25. She added a goal and an assist in the upset victory.
Four days later, Epke posted five goals and two assists in Northwestern's 16-12 win over then-No. 7 Johns Hopkins, setting season-highs in goals, assists and points. She also recorded six draw controls while splitting reps in the circle with redshirt sophomore Madison Smith.
The Guilford, Conn., native buried five of her six shots in an efficient offensive display.
In 11 games as a Wildcat, Epke has amassed 14 goals, eight assists and 39 draw controls.
