Scane Becomes NU’s All-Time Leading Point Scorer, ‘Cats Rout Central Michigan

EVANSTON, Ill. – In the first game of a four-game homestand, No. 3 Northwestern (5-1) secured a 27-3 victory over Central Michigan (0-7), winning their fourth game in a row and 35th consecutive at home on Sunday afternoon. Attacker Izzy Scane became the program's all-time leading scorer, earning her 399th point on her second goal in the first quarter.  
 
The Wildcats were led by Madison Taylor (4 goals, 2 assists on a team-high 8 shots), Scane (4 goals), Dylan Amonte (3 goals, 3 assists) and Erin Coykendall (6 assists). Samantha Smith (6), Taylor Lapointe (5) and Serafina DeMunno (5) led the team in draw controls. How It Happened
Playing indoors at Ryan Fieldhouse, the reigning national champions led throughout the match. They scored the first five goals of the game and dominated the first half 17-1. NU outshot their opponents 40-8 and won the draw control battle 26-7.
 
Scane and Taylor both scored four goals in the first half, with Amonte scoring a hat trick. The Wildcats scored the final nine goals of the game.
 
Game Notes
  • Izzy Scane became the program's all-time leading point scorer on her second goal of the game. She came into the game with 397 career points. Scane passes Hannah Nielsen – the current head coach at Michigan – who accumulated 398 career points for the Wildcats from 2006 to 2009. She finished the game with 400 career points, which ranks 10th in NCAA history.
  • Northwestern improved to 2-0 all-time against Central Michigan. Their last encounter on May 13, 2022, at Martin Stadium in Evanston, Ill., ended in a dominant 22-7 victory for the Wildcats during the First round of the NCAA tournament.
  • The Wildcats boast an impressive 35-game winning streak at home, the longest active streak in the nation.
  • Midfielder Serafina DeMunno scored the first goal and first assist of her career in the third quarter.
  • First-year midfielder Lauren Archer scored the first goal of her career.
  • This is the program's largest margin of victory (24 goals) since beating Detroit Mercy 30-3 in the 2020 season.
