EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern hosts Penn State for a three-game series at Sharon J. Drysdale Field this weekend. All three games will be streamed live on B1G+.
The Wildcats (21-9, 6-1 B1G) have won 10 of their past 11 games and are 4-0 at home this season.
In Wednesday's mid-week matchup, Northwestern crushed rivals Illinois 12-0 in a five inning, run-rule victory. The 'Cats set a program record with six home runs in the game, each of which was hit by a different player.
Hannah Cady got things going for the 'Cats in the first inning with a two-run homer, before Angela Zedak and Kansas Robinson both homered in the second inning. It was Zedak's team-high seventh home run of the season and Robinson's second-straight game with a home run.
First-year Kelsey Nader hit her the first home run of her career in the third inning, followed by a RBI-triple from Robinson, the first triple of her career, and Maeve Nelson's first home run of the season. Emmie Farnam capped-off NU's massive offensive day with a pinch-hit homer in the fifth inning.
Danielle Williams was dominant against the Illini, allowing just two baserunners and striking out 11 in a five-inning shutout. It is the 32nd scoreless start of Williams's career. Williams 11 strikeouts brought her past Courtnay Foster for 4th place in Northwestern history with 1,015 career strikeouts. She is 115 strikeouts from tying Lauren Delaney (2007-10) for third in program history.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is averaging 7.4 runs per game in seven conference games this season, the second most in the Big Ten behind Indiana.
Zedak, Cady, Robinson, and Jordyn Rudd, have all posted an OPS over .900 this season. Last season was the first time the 'Cats had four players reach a .900 OPS in the same season since 2015. Robinson is on pace to be the first Wildcat first-year with a .900 OPS since Jordyn Rudd in 2019.
Northwestern is 49-16 against Penn State in program history. The 'Cats have won 10-straight games against the Nittany Lions dating back to 2013.
