Series Wrap Up: 'Cats Pick Up Road Sweep at Wisconsin

EVANSTON, Ill. – After defeating Illinois at home in a mid-week matchup, Northwestern swept a road series at Wisconsin over the weekend to improve to 28-9 on the season and 13-1 in Big Ten play. The 'Cats currently sit alone atop the conference standings with a three-game lead and have won eight-straight games.
 
Standout Performances
  • Nikki Cuchran led the team with a .545 average (6-for-11), .667 on-base percentage, and .636 slugging percentage in last week's games.
    • Cuchran's .537 batting average, 22 hits, and .627 on-base percentage in conference play leads the Big Ten.
    • Since Big Ten play started on March 24th, Cuchran has raised her season average from .203 to .356.
  • Danielle Williams posted a 0.00 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 10.2 innings over the four-game week.
    • She recorded the win in three of her four appearances while allowing just six hits and five walks.
    • Williams is striking out 11.0 batters per seven innings in Big Ten play, the most in the conference and over 1.5 more batters than Autumn Pease's (Minnesota) second-place mark of 9.37.
    • In Wednesday's game against Illinois, Williams passed Courtnay Foster (2003-06) for fifth place in Northwestern history with 785 innings pitched.
  • Skyler Shellmyer went 5-for-12 (.417 average) with her second-career home run and four RBI in the three game weekend series against Wisconsin.
    • Shellmyer posted a 1.052 OPS and two steals on the weekend, raising her season batting average to .354.
    • The Iowa native drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning of the 'Cats 4-3 win in Sunday's series finale.
  • Hannah Cady tallied three hits on the weekend, raising her stats to a .290 batting average and .952 OPS.
    • After hitting .182 in the first 12 games of the season, Cady has caught fire to hit .343 over the past 25 games.
  • Lauren Boyd did not allow an earned run over 6.2 innings against Illinois and Wisconsin.
    • Boyd boasts a team-low 1.72 ERA over 73.1 innings this season, tied for the third-lowest mark in the conference.
  • Jordyn Rudd was selected with the 24th overall pick in the Women's Professional Fastpitch draft on Monday.
  • Northwestern is averaging 7.64 runs per game in Big Ten play, the most in the conference.
  • The 'Cats lead the Big Ten with a .323 team batting average and 18 stolen bases in conference play.
  • The Wildcats lead the conference with a 2.43 ERA in Big Ten play and lead the conference with 101 strikeouts and a .213 opponent average.
