CHICAGO – Northwestern rallied past DePaul 56-46 behind a stellar defensive performance, holding the Blue Demons to their fewest points of the season on Saturday afternoon inside Wintrust Arena. With a game-high 16 points, Nick Martinelli was named the Fisher-McGrath Award recipient, given to the most valuable player of the Northwestern/DePaul game. The Wildcats improved to 8-2, while DePaul fell to 2-8.

Northwestern dominated the turnover battle in Saturday's contest, forcing 13 turnovers while committing just eight. The Wildcats have won the turnover battle in 13 of 14 games this season.
After falling behind 14-12, Northwestern went on a 6-0 run with 10:22 left in the first half to take an 18-14 lead. DePaul then responded to tie things up at 25-25 heading into halftime. Northwestern saw the bench step up in the period, as the bench registered 12 of its 25 total points.
After intermission, Northwestern grabbed a 42-36 lead before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Martinelli's jumper, to grow its advantage to 47-36 with 9:35 to go in the contest. The Blue Demons narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Wildcats still cruised the rest of the way for the 56-46 win. Northwestern hit five 3-pointers in the second half, scoring 15 of its 31 points in the half from behind the arc.
