PHOENIX – Northwestern jumped out to 36-13 halftime lead and coasted past Arizona State, 65-46, for a statement win in the Jerry Colangelo Hall of Fame Series on Wednesday night at Footprint Center. The Wildcats improved to 9-2 for the second consecutive season.

The Wildcats had three players score in double figures, led by Buie, who had 22 points and seven rebounds. Barnhizer added 16 points, nine rebounds and two steals while Berry helped out with a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats held ASU to 46 points, one game after holding DePaul to 46 points. It is the first time that NU has limited back-to-back opponents to 46 points or fewer since doing so against Brown and North Florida on Nov. 21 and 25, 2006.

The Wildcats did most of their damage from deep, shooting 41% (9-for-22) from three-point range, while ASU shot just 17% (3-for-18) from behind the arc.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 25-12 lead, Northwestern closed the first half on an 11-1 run to take a 36-13 advantage into the break. The Wildcats held ASU to 13 points in the first half, the fewest in a half by a Northwestern opponent since Chicago State scored eight points in the first half on Dec. 11, 2016. The 'Cats outrebounded the Sun Devils 27-12 in the first half.

Northwestern cruised in the second half, never leading by fewer than 15 points in the 65-46 win. Northwestern shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting four shots from deep to score 12 of its 29 points. Northwestern outrebounded Arizona State 41-31 for its largest rebounding advantage of the season.
