Senior pours in 20 points to lead Wildcats to first win over Badgers since 2018

EVANSTON, Ill. - Boo Buie put up 20 points to lead Northwestern past Wisconsin by a final score of 66-63 inside Welsh-Ryan Arena on Monday.

Buie, who reached the 20-point mark for the third time in four games to pace the 'Cats (13-5, 4-3 B1G), also collected seven rebounds and dished out five assists.  Chase Audige tacked on 16 points and Brooks Barnhizer added nine points.

Led by a team-best seven boards from Buie, Northwestern outrebounded Wisconsin (12-6, 4-4 B1G) by a 35-32 margin.

How It Happened

With the game knotted up at 9-9, Northwestern went on a 7-0 run with 13:00 left in the first half, capped off by a three from Julian Roper II, to open up a 16-9 lead.  A Barnhizer jumper at the 6:29 mark stretched the gap to 22-14 as the Wildcats ultimately took a 32-26 advantage into halftime.

Wisconsin refused to go away without a fight, opening the second stanza on an 8-0 tear that saw the visitors go in front, 34-32, on a Chucky Hepburn trey with 17:31 remaining.  Buie answered with a three of his own to put the 'Cats back in front, 35-34, on Northwestern's ensuing possession as the two teams traded as the second half wore on.

The 'Cats locked in on the defensive end down the stretch, holding Wisconsin without a made field goal for the final 3:14 of regulation.  Another Barnhizer bucket edged Northwestern back in front, 62-61, before a split at the free throw line by Tyler Wahl made it 62-62 with 2:34 to go.  Two Matthew Nicholson makes at the charity stripe only 16 seconds later gave the Wildcats a 64-62 lead, as the 'Cats came up with multiple crucial stops in the closing minutes to wrap up their first win over the Badgers since 2018.
