Northwestern Grabs First Big Ten Win

The Middlebury transfer tossed his fourth straight quality start as he struck out five Hoosiers and allowed only one walk. Since March 13, the graduate student is 3-0 with a 1.76 ERA in his first season with the Wildcats.
Northwestern got on the board behind a Tony Livermore RBI single in the fourth inning that the Chicago native poked up the middle and through the Hoosier infield. Later in the inning, reigning Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week Ethan O'Donnell drove a ball deep into center field and off the wall for a two-run RBI double.
With Farinelli in control, Northwestern blew the game open with a Vincent Bianchina double in the seventh inning and two more runs on a passed ball and RBI groundout from Andrew Pinkston.
Indiana would bring the winning run to the plate in the ninth inning, but another Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week - Jay Beshears - stepped to the mound and punched out the final two outs to deliver Northwestern their first Big Ten win of the season.
The Wildcats (10-12, 1-1) are back in action tomorrow afternoon for the series finale at 12pm CT on Big Ten Network.
