Northwestern Looks to Stay Hot in B1G Play

Bloomington, Ind. - Northwestern Baseball will open Big Ten play on the road this season, as the Wildcats head to Bloomington to battle Indiana in a three-game weekend series.
Conference play will get underway for the Wildcats at 4 p.m. CT on Friday afternoon, before afternoon matchups at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday and 12 p.m. CT on Sunday.
Northwestern, winners of eight of their last ten, are coming off four games against Southern Illinois and Butler in Carbondale, IL. The Wildcats swept SIU and split a pair of matchups against the Bulldogs, improving their record to 9-11 as Big Ten play begins. The weekend downstate also saw Northwestern extend their winning streak to seven games, the team's longest since 2017, before dropping the series finale to Butler on Sunday afternoon.
The offense was lifted by standout performances from Ethan O'Donnell and Jay Beshears. O'Donnell drove home 13 RBIs over the wekend with four home runs, including a go-ahead grand slam on his birthday in a win over Butler. Beshears hit four homers with four doubles and collected 11 hits as he hit .579 against SIU and Butler.
O'Donnell and Beshears were named Collegiate Baseball National Players of the Week after a pair of impressive performances against SIU & Butler.
O'Donnell was also named B1G Player of the Week, as Northwestern became one of just two teams in the conference with a Big Ten Player of the Week, Pitcher of the Week and Freshman of the Week on their roster.
On the mound, Sean Sullivan continued to write one of the most impressive first-year seasons in Northwestern history, as he struck out five over five innings and improved to 4-0 on the 2022 season in a win over SIU.
