EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 6 Northwestern lacrosse team (4-1) looks for its second straight win over a top five team as it travels to face No.2 North Carolina (5-0) at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday, March 6. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.

The Wildcats enter the matchup on a four-game winning streak with their only loss of the year coming in the season opener to No. 1 Boston College. In a rematch of a Final Four game from last season, Northwestern took down No. 3 Syracuse 16-15 in overtime on Tuesday, March 1. Lauren Gilbert continued her strong season with a seven-goal performance that included the game-tying and game-winning goal. Midfielder Jill Girardi also put together an impressive performance for the 'Cats with five goals and 13 draw controls, including winning the start of overtime. NU overcame a three-goal deficit entering the fourth quarter and outscore the Orange 5-2 to force the extra period and win their first overtime game since 2018.

Northwestern is sixth nationally scoring an average of 16.4 goals per game. Gilbert leads the attack with a Big Ten leading 22 goals, which ranks ninth in the country.

North Carolina defeated Jacksonville 17-10 in its last game on Sunday, Feb. 27. The all-time series between the two schools is tied, 11-11. Before the pandemic, the teams met in 16 straight season, counting regular season and tournament matchups.
