EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's basketball team will look to sweep the regular season series from Nebraska as it welcomes the Cornhuskers at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22 to Welsh-Ryan Arena. The game will air on BTN with Dave Revsine (play-by-play) and Stephen Bardo (analyst) on the call and on AM 720 WGN Radio with Dave Eanet (play-by-play) and Billy McKinney (analyst).
The Wildcats (12-13, 5-11 B1G) have four regular season games remaining on their schedule before the Big Ten Tournament begins in Indianapolis, Ind. on Wednesday, March 9. As of Monday (Feb. 21), NU would be the No. 11 seed and play the Cornhuskers in the first round.
Boo Buie leads the team averaging 15.0 points per game and ranks fourth in the Big Ten posting 4.5 assists per game. He scored a season-high 27 points in this season's first tilt against the Cornhuskers in Lincoln and has eclipsed 15 points in five of his last six games. Buie is on pace to join Bryant McIntosh as the only NU players to average at least 13.0 points and 4.5 assists per game in a season since 1992-93.
The Wildcats dropped their last game on Sunday afternoon to Minnesota 77-60 inside Williams Arena in Minneapolis. Pete Nance led the team scoring 18 points and hit 2-of-3 long range attempts. Buie (16 points) scored the first seven NU points of the second half and was the only other player to join Nance in double figures.
Northwestern leads the all-time series against Nebraska 10-9 after claiming an 87-63 road victory earlier this month on Feb. 5. The 24-point win was the program's second-largest margin of victory in conference play since 1950. Buie hit a career-best six treys in his 27-point outburst. Chase Audige added 16 points, with 11 coming in the second half, and two steals. Since Chris Collins took over the program in 2013-14, the Wildcats are 8-2 against the Cornhuskers.
Nebraska (7-19, 1-14 B1G) fell at home to Maryland, 90-74, in its last game on Friday, Feb. 18. Freshman Bryce McGowens leads the team averaging 16.8 points per game and has earned seven Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards this season. The Wildcats are one of two Big Ten teams (Purdue) to hold him to 10 points or fewer in conference action.
NU takes on Penn State at 6 p.m. in State College on Friday, Feb. 25, on FS1 in its first of back-to-back road games.
