WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Northwestern fell 17-9 to Purdue on the road Saturday afternoon at Ross-Ade Stadium.
Cole Freeman made his first-career start under center for the Wildcats. A walk-on from Summit, New Jersey, Freeman became the first walk-on to start at quarterback since Dan and Susan Jones Family Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald took over in 2006.
Evan Hull led all Northwestern rushers with 105 yards and one touchdown in the contest, picking up 4.8 yards per carry. It marked Hull's fifth game this season with 100+ rushing yards and the 11th such game of his career. Since 2000, only three Wildcats (Justin Jackson, Tyrell Sutton and Jason Wright) have had more 100-yard rushing games than Hull. Cam Porter also added 29 yards on the ground.
