CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Northwestern earned an impressive 4-3 comeback win over Arizona State, the No. 21 seed in the ITA Kickoff Weekend event, on Sunday in Chapel Hill.

The 'Cats improved to 5-2 and dropped the Sun Devils to 1-4. Their other three losses are all against ranked opponent in Texas, Texas A&M and Ohio State. The program finished the 2021 season with a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

While Arizona State took the doubles point, Northwestern fought back with an impressive showing across singles.

Senior Steven Forman put the 'Cats on the board with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Murphy Cassone.

Senior Simen Bratholm tied the match at 2-2 with a ranked win at No. 2 singles, defeating No. 118 Max McKennon 6-3, 6-3.

First year Felix Nordby then handed the 'Cats a 3-2 lead with 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Spencer Brachman.

Saiprakash Goli fell in an extremely close contest with two tiebreaks, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) to George Stoupe, which leveled the team score at 3-3.

Senior Trice Pickens delivered a clutch three-set 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win over Jacob Bullard, an experienced junior transfer with two years of experience at Texas.

The Wildcats return for a weekend homestand at Combe Tennis Center, hosting Princeton on Friday and Duke and UIC on Sunday.
