Wolverines Take Pitching Duel in Series Finale

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Northwestern locked horns with Michigan in a pitching duel on Sunday afternoon, but came up short 2-0 to move to 22-10 on the season.
Morgan Newport was dominant on the mound, striking out five in five innings of work. Besides the two-run homer in the third inning, Newport only allowed three baserunners. Danielle Williams continued her dominant season, recording the final two outs for the Wildcats. She now has a team-low 1.68 ERA.
Skyler Shellmyer continued her dominance at the plate, notching two hits. She finished the series with six hits, including a 5-7 stretch in the last two games out of the leadoff spot. Jordyn Rudd also had a dominant series, going 5-11 at the plate with five RBI. Rudd now has a team-high 40 hits on the season.
The 'Cats will be back on the field next weekend to face Illinois at Sharon J. Drysdale Field. Their weekend series against the Fighting Illini will start on Friday at 3 p.m CT.
