
Northwestern Drops Opening Match of Illinois Series

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Wildcats dropped their opening game of their weekend series with Illinois, 4-2.
The Fighting Illini got out to an early lead with a home run in the first inning. They grabbed three more runs in the fourth inning to build a strong 4-0 lead.
Northwestern rallied in the fifth inning to try and find a comeback win. With two outs on the board, Hannah Cady and Skyler Shellmyer both singled to reach base. Rachel Lewis pulled out a double to score them both and cut the lead to two. Williams threw two more scoreless innings for a total of five on the day with 10 strike-outs, but so did the Illinois pitching staff and took home the win.
The 'Cats will be back on the diamond tomorrow for their double header against Illinois beginning at noon CT.
