'Cats Take Down Maryland in Big Ten Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Northwestern opened Big Ten play with a 67-61 win over Maryland on the road. The 'Cats improve to 6-2 on the season.
The Wildcats held Maryland to 28.8% shooting from the field, the lowest by an opponent since Dec. 2, 2020 when Arkansas Pine-Bluff shot 26.8% from the field.
Northwestern held the Terrapins to 27 points in the first half, tying the lowest total for Maryland in the first half this season.
Pete Nance finished with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds, recording a double-double for the third time this season and the seventh time in his career.
Nance is now averaging 17.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game this season on 53.9% shooting from the field and 45.8% from three, the only player in the Big Ten averaging 15+ points per game while shooting 50% from the field and 45% from deep.
Chase Audige contributed 14 points in his season debut after returning from injury. Audige was the Wildcats' leading scorer last season at 12.6 points per game.
Boo Buie scored 16 points, extending his double-digit scoring streak to 12 regular season games. Buie also tallied four assists, adding to his conference-leading 6.0 assists per game average.
