Wildcats Welcome NJIT For Sunday Showdown

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern (6-2) welcomes NJIT (5-3) to Welsh-Ryan Arena on Sunday for a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPNU. It marks the first-ever matchup between the two programs.
 
Last time out, the Wildcats knocked off Maryland 67-61 in the Big Ten opener. Pete Nance posted his seventh career double-double with 17 points (8-of-13 shooting) and 10 rebounds. Chase Audige scored 14 points in his season debut, while Boo Buie contributed 16 points, 5 rebounds, and four assists.
 
The 'Cats played lockdown defense, holding Maryland to 28.8% shooting from the field, the Terrapins' lowest percentage ever in a Big Ten game. The 'Cats .383 opponent shooting percentage ranks third best in the conference.
 
Pete Nance is putting together a season to remember, averaging 17.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game, while shooting 53.9% from the field, 45.8% from deep, and 87.5% from the line.
 
Nance is the only player in the Big Ten and one of four players in Division I shooting 50/45/85 this season. He is also the only player in the country averaging at least 1.5 blocks per game while shooting at least 45% from three. Additionally, Nance is the only player in Big Ten averaging 15+ points and 8+ rebounds while shooting at least 40% from three.
 
According to SI's Kevin Sweeney, Nance is currently on pace to become the first high-major player in Division I history to average eight rebounds, three assists, and 1.5 blocked shots while shooting 40% from three in a season.
 
 
First-year Julian Roper II is making an impact in all facets of the game. He is the only first-year in the Big Ten to tally 10+ offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, steals, and assists so far this season. Roper II is also the first NU player with 12+ steals through the team's first eight games since 2010.
 
Pete Nance, Ryan Greer, Ty Berry, and Robbie Beran are all shooting over 40% from three this season, helping the Wildcats to a .374 team three-point percentage. Northwestern joins Purdue as the only teams in the Big Ten with four players shooting over 40% from deep (min. 15 attempts). 
 
Boo Buie currently leads the conference with 6.0 assists per game and ranks eighth at 16.6 points per game. Buie is on pace to become the first Wildcat since at least 2010 to average at least 15.0 points and 5.0 assists per game.
