Wildcats Ready for Regional in Myrtle Beach

EVANSTON, Ill.– The Northwestern Men's Golf Team is gearing up for the NCAA Regional Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The three-day tournament will take place May 13-15 and will be hosted by Coastal Carolina University at TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet.
The #B1GCats are led by first-year David Nyfjäll who was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was awarded First Team All-Big Ten conference honors. In his first season, he's come away with back-to-back individual first-place finishes, including an 11-under 205 score at the Chatham Hills Collegiate, the second-best by any NU first-year in program history.
Senior Ryan Lumsden is entering his final postseason as a Wildcat and was recently named the 2019 Byron Nelson Award winner. The first Northwestern golfer to win this award, Lumsden has the third-best career stroke average in program history (72.74). This season, Lumsden secured his second individual title at the Marquette Intercollegiate, finishing with an impressive 8-under 208 score.
This week at the NCAA Regional Championship, the 'Cats will face off against 14 teams, including conference opponents Illinois and Ohio State. Chicago's Big Ten Team are the ninth-seeded team.
The low five teams and the low individuals not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, which will take place from May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Last year, Northwestern finished in fourth place in Columbus to advance to the NCAA Championship.
Northwestern will tee off from the first hole beginning at 8:55 CT. and will be paired with Ohio State and Oregon. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.
