Wildcats Dominate Nittany Lions in Thursday Night Showdown

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern extended its winning streak to three games after a resounding 19-11 victory over No. 24 Penn State at Martin Stadium on Thursday night.
Selena Lasota, Lindsey McKone and Izzy Scane led the scoring effort for the Wildcats, accounting for 13 of the #B1GCats' 19 total goals.
Lasota scored a game-high six goals, her second-highest output of the season, and she now has a team-high 36 goals on the season. She also extended her career goals mark to 238, the second-highest mark among all active players.
Scane finished with a career-high seven points as she registered four goals to go along with a career-best three assists. The first-year from Clarkston, Michigan has scored 15 goals in the Wildcats' last three games.
McKone totaled three goals to go along with three assists. She has now scored a goal in each of the Wildcats' 10 games this season.
Julie Krupnick continued to impress in the net as she recorded nine saves on the night. The sophomore goalkeeper has a .704 save percentage (19 saves in 27 attempts) over her last two games.
Both teams began the game by exchanging a pair of quick goals to knot the game, 2-2, with 26:28 remaining in the first half. From there, Northwestern held Penn State scoreless for over 18 minutes, during which the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run to take a 9-2 advantage.
Lasota recorded back-to-back goals to close the first half with Northwestern leading, 12-5. She led all players with four goals in the first frame. The 'Cats did not let up in the second half as they opened with four-straight goals to cap off a 6-0 run and extend their lead to 16-5.
Lauren Gilbert and Taylor Pinzone added the final two goals of the game for the Wildcats, marking the 26th goal on the year for Gilbert and the fifth goal of the season for Pinzone.
The Wildcats return to the field Sunday at 1 p.m. for a matchup against No. 5 Penn at Wilson Field in Ryan Fieldhouse.
