3/31/2019 4:03:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern came out firing against Penn, building up an eight point second half lead en route to a 17-13 win over the fifth ranked Quakers.

Senior Selena Lasota led all scorers, tallying six goals for the second contest in a row. She has recorded 29 goals in the last five games. After her twelve goal weekend, Lasota moved into the top 20 in NCAA history with 244 career goals.

The 'Cats controlled every aspect of the game, recording more draw controls, forced turnovers and ground balls. Senior Kim Harker led all players with a season-high five ground balls.

Northwestern dominated in the first half. Four different Wildcats scored in the first four minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead. The 'Cats did not let off the gas, as they connected on their first eight shots to open the game. Lasota led the team with five goals on five attempts in the half.

First year Izzy Scane secured her fourth straight hat trick in the first half with a late goal to give the 'Cats the 13-7 lead going into the break.

The Wildcats kept the pressure on when Lasota and Scane scored the first two goals of the second half, putting the 'Cats up eight. The Quakers responded with a late second half run, scoring five goals in a row to cut the lead to three with three minutes remaining. But sophomore Lauren Gilbert put the ball in the back of the net with two minutes remaining to secure the win.

The 'Cats return to the field on Saturday, April 6 for a third straight matchup against a ranked opponent when they face off against No. 17 Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
