Wildcats In Top-2 After Day One of Desert Mountain Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. –With all five Wildcats in the starting lineup finishing in the top-20, Northwestern will tee off in Sunday's third-and-final round of the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in second place.
Northwestern carded two rounds of 283 and 287 for a 6-under 570 total after day one. Mississippi State is in first place at 17-under.
NU was paced by a 4-under performance by junior Everton Hawkins. Hawkins shot a team low 68 in the first round, followed by an even 72 to tie for fourth. Hawkins also recorded nine birdies on the day.
Just three shots behind Hawkins is David Nyfjäll. The first year carded a first-round score of 73 (+1) and a second round score of 70 (-2) to tie for 10th place.
The Wildcats recorded 37 birdies, the second most of any other team in the two rounds.
Northwestern looks to make the charge for the top spot on the leaderboard on Sunday. Tee time is set for 10:15 a.m. CT. Live scoring can be found here.
