EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will hit the road this weekend for their first road games of the season. The undefeated Wildcats will play back-to back-games against No. 7 Syracuse and Canisius.
The 'Cats have continued to climb in the national rankings, landing fourth in the IWLCA Coaches poll, fifth in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and remain seventh in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll. Coming off of it's 21-20 win against No. 16 Duke, NU will look to put their high-scoring offense up against their first top-10 opponent of the season.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will take the field Sunday at 11 a.m. at Carrier Dome and Monday at noon against Canisius.
KRUPNICK LOCKDOWN
Goalkeeper Julie Krupnick made 16 saves to set the single-game program record and help the #B1GCats lock down a win against Dartmouth. Krupnick is just 16 saves short of breaking the 200 benchmark. In the same weekend, Krupnick also picked up a career-best five ground balls.
RACK EM' UP
Over the last three games, the 'Cats have scored a total of 63 goals, averaging 21 per game. The Wildcats are ranked No. 2 in the country in scoring offense.
QUICK ON THE DRAW
Sophomore Brennan Dwyer has tallied 23 draw controls on the season through the first three games. She is currently No. 11 in the NCAA for average draw controls per game with 7.67. She is ranked second among all sophomores and is leading the Big Ten.
TRIPLE THREAT
Through the first three games, the 'Cats have three players on a multiple goal streak: Lauren Gilbert, Jill Girardi and Claire Quinn. Gilbert has racked up 12 goals so far this season with three in the first game, four in the second and five in the third. Girardi currently has six with two per game and Quinn has found the back of the net eight times this season with three in the first and third games and two in the second.
LASOTA GOAL WATCH
With two goals in the 21-15 win over Dartmouth, Selena Lasota is now only 16 goals away from making it onto the NCAA Women's Lacrosse all-time goals list. She currently sits just outside the top 30 with 209, and only needs to reach 225 to make her way into the record book.
FAST AS SCANE
First-year Izzy Scane scored Northwestern's first goal of the 2019 season in 12 seconds, which is the fastest first goal of the season in program history. Scane went on to record a second goal, scooped up three ground balls, secured four draw controls and a caused a game-high four turnovers versus Louisville.
A HILLER DYNASTY
2019 marks Coach Amonte Hiller's 18th season as the head coach of the Wildcats, which is the second most among active Big Ten coaches. In her time, the 'Cats have gone 283-73 overall and amassed a 78-24 record in conference play. Amonte Hiller has also taken Northwestern to the NCAA tournament for 15 consecutive seasons.
