EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore David Nyfjäll was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the first time this season, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Nyfjäll takes home the award after placing fifth at the Crooked Stick Invitational, his second consecutive top-5 finish of the season.

Carded a 54-hole total of 214 (-2) to finish fifth individually and lead the Wildcats to a third-place team result at the Crooked Stick Invitational in Carmel, Ind.
Fired rounds of 70, 72 and 72 for a total of 214 (-2), more than four strokes below the course average of 75.59 for the week, to claim his second consecutive top-five finish of the season
Recorded 44 of 54 holes at or below par on the weekend, highlighted by 10 birdies and an eagle
Registered the best result by a Big Ten student at the tournament by four strokes
Collects his third career Golfer of the Week honor and his first of the season

As a team, Northwestern earned a share of third place, carding a low-round 293 in the final day of competition.

Chicago's Big Ten Team will resume play Feb. 7 in Palm Coast, Fla. as they open their spring season with Big Ten Match Play.
