Lumsden Selected to Team Scotland for World Amateur Team Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. — Rising senior Ryan Lumsden has been selected to Team Scotland for this year's World Amateur Team Championships, it was announced Monday.
Lumsden will join Sandy Scott (Texas Tech) and Euan Walker (Missouri) at the Carton House Golf Club in Ireland, competing for the coveted Eisenhower Trophy on September 5-8.
The biennial event is a 72-hole stroke play competition with the best two scores each day counting toward the team score.
"It is always difficult to select a squad but we look at the results not just this season but year-on-year and examine stroke averages," said Clare Queen, the Scottish Golf Performance Director. "We also have the ability through insight tools and the World Amateur Golf Rankings to assess performances based on the strength of the tournament fields in which they are playing, so that helps remove the subjectivity."
Lumsden will be attempting to become the first Wildcat to be on an Eisenhower Trophy-winning squad since Luke Donald and the Great Britain & Ireland team won in 1998 in Santiago, Chile. Donald was also on the runner-up GB&I team in 2000 in Bad Saarow, Germany.
"Ryan has had a great experience having qualified for the U.S. Open and has been playing consistently on the men's side," Queen continued. Lumsden, the 85th-ranked amateur in the world, is the top-ranked Scot.
Lumsden qualified for the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills after becoming the only amateur golfer to advance through the Columbus, Ohio, Sectional Qualifying, finishing tenth at six-under-par.
He was a First Team All-Big Ten Honoree in the 2017-18 season and currently owns the third-best career scoring average in Northwestern program history.
