EVANSTON, Ill. — A program-record and Big Ten-leading four Wildcats earned Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar honors, it was announced Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
The four Northwestern student-athletes — Dylan Wu, Sam Triplett, Ryan Lumsden, and Pete Griffith — met the GCAA's criteria for the award: be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average below 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his university.
Wu and Triplett both end their careers as two-time All-America Scholars, joining Bennett Lavin, Jack Perry, Nick Losole, Josh Dupont, and Jonathan Bowers as recent 'Cats to go two-for-two in earning the award.
The four winners for Northwestern are tied for third-most for any school. A total of 265 Division-I student-athletes received the prestigious honor.
Earlier this month, the GCAA also announced that Northwestern earned its tenth-straight All-Academic Team Honor, earning a team grade-point average above 3.0 for the 2017-18 academic year.
In addition to reaching high watermarks in the classroom, the men's golf program had a trailblazing year on the links. The 'Cats posted a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Championships at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Oklahoma, capping off a year in which the squad won three different tournaments.
Northwestern will start its 2018-19 season with their home tournament, the Windon Memorial Classic, at the Knollwood Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, on September 23-24.
