EVANSTON, Ill. — On the heels of a contest against No. 2/1 Michigan State on Saturday, Northwestern bounces right back into action Monday as it host Maryland at Allstate Arena. Tip time is set for 6 p.m.
Both teams are competing on a one-day prep. Northwestern hosted Michigan State while Maryland hosted Rutgers on Saturday. For the Wildcats, this is the second of four games over a nine-day span to wrap up the regular season. NU will host Wisconsin on Thursday in its home finale before closing out the regular season at Iowa on Sunday.
Northwestern is facing Maryland for the second time in its last four contests. The teams met just nine days ago on Feb. 10 in College Park. Maryland won the first meeting between the teams, 73-57, Feb. 10 in College Park. Scottie Lindsey paced Northwestern with 20 points.
Northwestern first-year Anthony Gaines and Maryland sophomore Kevin Huerter were AAU teammates for Albany City Rocks. Gaines is coming off his best all-around performance of his young career, playing 37 minutes and posting 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in Saturday's matchup against Michigan State.
Scouting Maryland
The Terrapins (18-11, 7-9 B1G) are coming off a 61-51 home win over Rutgers on Saturday. Bruno Fernando led Maryland with 18 points and 16 rebounds while Anthony Cowan contributed 14 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Cowan leads the team with averages of 15.8 points and 5.1 assists per game and the Big Ten with an average of 39.1 minutes played in league contests. Kevin Huerter contributes 14.6 points per game for the Terrapins.
