Wildcats Drop Decision to Terrapins, 71-64

Lindsey leads three in double figures with 15 points
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Northwestern dropped a 71-64 contest to Maryland at Allstate Arena on Monday night.
Scottie Lindsey led the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points, including three triples. Dererk Pardon chipped in with 14 points and six rebounds with his customary efficiency, shooting 5-of-6 from the field.
Isiah Brown scored a season-high 11 points and assisted on three makes in just 16 minutes on the court.
Playing a career-high 38 minutes in an increased role, Anthony Gaines tallied five assists to go along with his six points, while Vic Law tallied nine points, five boards, and dropped three dimes.
Northwestern started the game on fire from deep, with 3-pointers from Law, Lindsey and Falzon to open up a 9-2 lead.
The Terrapins climbed back and took a lead behind a few inside looks from Michal Cekovsky. Northwestern hung within four thanks to Lindsey's second three of the night and a bucket out of the post from Gaines.
Law splashed in his second make from downtown to bring the 'Cats within one at 21-20. Gavin Skelly followed that up with a corner three off of a crosscourt find from Brown to tie the ballgame at 23-23.
Brown hit a jumper of his own and then dished the rock once more to Gaines, who nailed his first three to give the 'Cats the lead back.
Northwestern closed the half on a 10-2 run, featuring a deep three late in the shot clock from Brown and a thunderous dunk in transition from Lindsey. The 'Cats took a 37-30 lead into halftime and Lindsey led all scorers with ten points.
The Wildcats and the Terrapins traded buckets to start the second period as the visitors remained an arm's length away. Dererk Pardon scored six points in the first five minutes and Law canned his third deep ball to make it 47-38.
Maryland cut it to within three at 52-49, despite Pardon reaching double figures on the night for the 18th time the season and Lindsey knocking down his third shot from behind the arc.
The Terps surged ahead with a 15-2 run and grabbed a late 65-56 lead. Pardon started chipping away with a bruising and-one with under four minutes to play. Brown scored on a bump-and-run floater to make it 65-60 with under two minutes to go.
A Lindsey putback and free throws from Brown kept the 'Cats within five heading into the final minute, but the Terrapins pulled away to seal the game from the charity stripe.
Chicago's Big Ten Team in back in action on Thursday when it welcomes Wisconsin to Allstate Arena for the final home game of the season. Tip is set for 6 p.m. CT and Northwestern will honor the careers of seniors Scottie Lindsey, Bryant McIntosh and Gavin Skelly on the court following the game.

• First-year guard Anthony Gaines made his second consecutive and second career start. He recorded a career-high 5 assists in the contest, all in the first half. Gaines had a hand in each of Northwestern's first six field goals as he made a basket and assisted on the other five.
• For the second consecutive game, Northwestern knocked down eight 3-pointers in the first half. The Wildcats scored 24 of their 37 first-half points from behind the arch.
• Northwestern finished with 10 3-pointers in the contest, one shy of its high for a Big Ten game this season and two shy of their high this season overall.
• Scottie Lindsey moved past Patrick Baldwin while moving into a tie with Art Aaron for 20th place on Northwestern's all-time scoring list. Lindsey currently has 1,200 career points.
