EVANSTON, Ill. — The Northwestern men's golf team will head to La Quinta, California, and the famed PGA WEST Greg Norman Course for the 18th-annual Prestige at PGA WEST golf tournament, starting Monday, February 19.
The event will feature a shotgun start on Monday through Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. CT at the par-71, 7,070-yard course, which is nested by an immense crescent of terra-cotta mountains.
Northwestern, who won the event in 2000, will be competing in the Prestige at PGA WEST for the first time since 2011. The 'Cats were paced by Bennett Lavin in the event, who carded a 1-under performance.
This is the first spring stroke play tournament for Northwestern, who will look to build off of its successful fall season. The Wildcats won the last two tournaments in the fall, claiming first place in the Windon Memorial Classic and the UNCG/Grandover Collegiate to close out the slate.
This year, the 54-hole tournament features talent from top to bottom. Co-hosted by eight-time NCAA champion Stanford University and UC Davis, the Prestige features the 2015 and 2016 NCAA Champions LSU and Oregon, along with seven teams from last year's NCAA Championships.
The full team list is: UC Davis, East Tennessee State, Iowa State, LSU, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Pepperdine, San Diego State, San Francisco, Stanford, Stirling, USC, and Washington.
The Prestige at PGA West has hosted several superstars in recent years, including World No 2 Jon Rahm and 2017 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Xander Schauffele.
Weather shouldn't be an issue for Chicago's Big Ten Team as they compete at the tournament, which is located in the beautiful Coachella Valley. The weather forecast calls for sunny skies with temperatures around 70 degrees for the days of the event.
